The first of two 5-day workshops that include more than 30 hours of Instructor Led Training including lessons, Hands-on Labs and 16 hours of Assessment labs including instructor time and feedback to provide student mentoring and support.
- Included with this Cisco certified class you will receive access to your personalized learning portal so that you can easily refer back to your class activities and assessments. You have access to your learning portal for 18 months. Only Cisco certified workshops provide you with this access.
- With this class, you receive the Cisco 360 Exercise Workbook and Reference Library.
In the Three Phase CCIE Preparation Process recommended by the Cisco 360 Learning Program, the Advanced Workshop I course should be attended during the latter portion of Phase One.
The class maintains a ratio of 60% lecture and 40% hands-on lab exercises.
Not only are these topics covered, extensive coverage on the "spot the issues/options analysis" problem solving approach is provided as well. This problem solving approach is covered in both chalk-talk "spot the issues" exercises guided by the instructor, as well as by performing CCIE level labs.
From the context of the Three Phase Cisco 360 Routing and Switching Roadmap, this course should be taken within Phase One of this program. This is recommended because this course focuses on core technologies as well as a problem solving approach that can be applied to all other topics encountered in the Routing and Switching CCIE lab.
A centerpiece of this course are the two graded assessment labs that are included in the curriculum. One graded assessment lab is presented on the first day of the course and the second graded assessment lab is presented on the last day of the course. These two graded assessment labs will allow the student to build a trend of performance that will reflect their level of readiness to attempt the actual Routing and Switching CCIE lab.
Duration:
Five Days
Course time begins at 8:30 a.m. (0830) daily and continues into the late afternoon or evening. Course time that extends late into the day is primarily dedicated to hands-on lab assignments. Learners may have the option to perform these assignments inside or outside of the classroom. On the last day of class, the course ends between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. (16:30 and 17:00).
Target Audience
This course is for technical professionals who are in their initial stages of preparing for the Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching lab. The target audience is CCIE candidates who are in Phase One of the Cisco 360 CCIE Preparation Roadmap.
Course Objectives
This course provides knowledge and hands-on experience with a core set of Routing and Switching CCIE level topics. These topics include:
- Frame Relay
- Cisco Catalyst 3560 Series Switch core configuration tasks
- Interior gateway protocols (IGPs): Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Routing Information Protocol version 2 (RIPv2)
- Route redistribution
- Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
- MPLS Layer 3 VPN’s
- IP multicast
- Router and Cisco Catalyst quality of service (QoS)
Course Prerequisites
Learners who attend this course must have a Cisco CCNP level of understanding of configuring and troubleshooting data link layer technologies, IGP routing protocols, basic redistribution, and BGP. It is also recommended that learners have a Cisco CCNP or CCIP certification and a passing score on the CCIE Routing and Switching written lab before enrolling in this course.
In addition, learners who attend this course should complete the self-paced Cisco 360 Lesson Modules on these topics:
- Frame Relay
- Data link layer technologies
- IGPs
- Troubleshooting
- BGP
- MPLS Layer 3 VPN's
Course Outline
The course outline is as follows:
- Module 1: Pursuing the Cisco CCIE
- Module 2: Graded Assessment Lab #1 (hands-on)
- Module 3: Data Link Layer Technologies and IGP Routing Protocols
- Module 4: BGP
- Module 5: MPLS Layer 3 VPN
- Module 6: Multicast
- Module 7: Router QoS
- Module 8: Cisco Catalyst QoS
- Module 9: Graded Assessment Lab #2 (hands-on)
Lab Outline
Central to CIERS-1 are these hands-on, technology-focused labs:
- Module 4: BGP
- Module 5: MPLS Layer 3 VPN
- Module 6: IP Multicast
- Module 7: Router QoS
- Module 8: Cisco Catalyst QoS
In addition, learners perform these two graded assessment labs:
Module 2: Graded Assessment Lab #1
This hands-on lab challenges the issue-spotting skills of learners by using the following core technologies:
- Frame Relay
- Cisco Catalyst 3560
- OSPF
- EIGRP
- RIPv2
- Redistribution
- BGP
Module 9: Graded Assessment Lab #2
This setup is designed to end the course with the learner experiencing a hands-on lab that contains the same number of general topics as in the actual Cisco CCIE lab. The exam includes two basic sections: (1) a 25 point Troubleshooting section and (2) a 75 point Configuration section. The troubleshooting section is performed first followed by the configuration section. The Troubleshooting section includes the following topics:
- Data Link Troubleshooting Section
- Network Layer Troubleshooting Section
- Network Application Troubleshooting Section
- Network Services Troubleshooting Section
- Network Security Troubleshooting Section
The configuration section includes the following topics:
- Frame Relay
- Cisco Catalyst 3560
- OSPF
- EIGRP
- RIPv2
- Redistribution
- IPv6
- Security
- QoS
- IP multicast
- IP Services
